Faster and More Secure: Updated my WordPress blog

Today I spent a few minutes on making my blog both faster and more secure. I primarily want to get indexed by Google and Bing (because they are the main web indexes inĀ  the world) so I used Google’s PageSpeed Insights tool and the Bing Webmaster tools. I hadn’t put much effort into optimizing my WordPress blog before today so, not surprisingly, my blog scored a miserable 56 / 100 in the PageSpeed test.

Page speed is a factor in the computation of your ranking in the search results so I decided to fix the issues on my site. Google gives you some suggestions on what to do — e.g., compress images, minify JavaScript and CSS, enable browser caching, etc. Lazy as I am, I just started looking up neat WordPress plugins to fix the issues one by one.
